If the company’s employment contract stipulates working hours and the employees turn up for work, they must be paid, even during load-shedding.
The employer may however structure shifts to coincide with load-shedding schedules and pay employees according to the shift schedule and their current hourly rates. Inform all employees, in writing, that the company has restructured its working hours and let them sign a copy acknowledging that they have been informed of the new shift schedule.
Employees, what do you think of this?
